• Türkiye has sent the Makkah (Mecca) joint defence agreement, signed with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan on 7 August, to its parliament for ratification. A committee could debate it as early as Friday, a Reuters source said.
• Under the 16-article deal, members must help one that is attacked, and each decides how. It runs for 10 years, and new members need approval from all three.
• Ratifying it would not by itself send Turkish troops, which needs separate legislation. Earlier this month the three agreed to deploy forces to Saudi Arabia against Houthi attacks.

• সৌদি আরব ও পাকিস্তানের সঙ্গে ৭ আগস্ট সই করা মক্কা যৌথ প্রতিরক্ষা চুক্তি অনুমোদনের জন্য তুরস্ক তা সংসদে পাঠিয়েছে। রয়টার্সের এক সূত্র বলেছে, শুক্রবারের মধ্যেই কমিটি এ নিয়ে আলোচনায় বসতে পারে।
• ১৬ ধারার এই চুক্তিতে কোনো সদস্য হামলার শিকার হলে অন্যদের সহায়তা করতে হবে। কীভাবে সহায়তা হবে, তা প্রত্যেক দেশ নিজে ঠিক করবে। চুক্তির মেয়াদ ১০ বছর। নতুন সদস্য নিতে তিন দেশেরই সম্মতি লাগবে।
• চুক্তি অনুমোদন হলেই তুর্কি সেনা পাঠানো হবে না। তার জন্য আলাদা আইন লাগবে। এ মাসের শুরুতে তিন দেশ হুথি হামলা ঠেকাতে সৌদি আরবে বাহিনী মোতায়েনে একমত হয়েছিল।
